Tool workshop / Difficult confrontation with the wounded worlds / ALTOS 4
The workshop will discuss the current project of the memorial of the military prison of Montluc in Lyon, France. A prison that saw the horrors of the fascist dictatorships, the decolonization, as a “normal” prison. A prison that allows us to see the relations between politics, justice and respect of human rights. The workshop will approach to the following questions: How to use a prison as a multiple commemorative site? How to question our history in echo with our time? How to design a site of memory and reflection where fragility becomes the potential? How to put in relation the wounded places and work better with the sensitive aspects of a site? How to connect the memory with future to live the present with hope? How to use design to exceed the horror without forgetting it? How to transform the notion of memorial into a laboratory of the sensibility and the common future? Along with the participants, we will develop a visual manifest of this kind of space.
